Bumper Edition

Due to the unusually hectic social life I have led the last two days, I am going to share some of my adventures with you in a bumper blog. One project I have been trying to sort out tonight may or may not be sucessful, but bear with me.

Tuesday Evening
As I think I mentioned before, It was hubby's birthday and we invited FIL and MIL round for a takeaway. We had a lovely evening chatting and debating as we do when around a table. We also ended up giving FIL his 80th birthday present four days early as we had discovered that hubby's brothers weren't bringing a present to the meal so we felt it may be a tad uncomfortable if we presented him with ours. So for Rick and those of you who I know are waiting with baited breath....
After a few moments silence he and MIL burst out laughing, they both thought it was excellent, pity that now after almost 60 years of being a slave to his razor, FIL has rebelled and is growing a beard. Well they do say you start going back to your childhood, I think he's now at the teenager stage!

Wednesday
I went out with my friend who is an elkhound breeder. She has seven of them in her house with her and it is a real thrill to go there and see so many beautiful dogs together. To some people it would be a nightmare but I love dogs and love going there. We took them out into the fields where they all ran around doing what dogs do in open fields. My heart was in my mouth though as I plucked up courage to let Freya off so she could join them. After losing Loki in the accident I keep Freya on an extension lead all the time now, but they are pack animals and I was confident she would stay with her mother and aunties ad not run off. She had a great time as did we chatting about Crufts and other 'doggie' stuff.

This is one of her girls - Lilah. She is such a character. She sits up at the table waiting for the dregs of the cup. I know this may be stomach churning for most of you but hey what's a few germs between friends? Lilah is going to be strutting her stuff at Crufts this year in the Hounds group! She needs a bit of a pamper session before then, but she'll be fantastic on the day!

In the evening I went our with a few friends for a meal in our local restaurant. It's the first restaurant our town has had in the 15 years I have lived here which you could call a 'proper' restaurant. There are plenty of chinese and Indian restaurants, fish n chips and Kebab shops, but not a place that is smart and serves lovely food. Scaramanga's is it's name. It's one of those places that you can go to dressed up or casual. I ate to over stuffed as usual and spent the rest of the night with heartburn and wind!

Today
I was supposed to be having a big clean up day. Jordan's room is done to the point where I need help with the wallpapering. We are finishing it off this weekend. All the accessories are bought, just need to be put together. So as today was my last day off I thought I'd better do some housework so I wouldn't have to do it at the weekend. I didn't really 'want' to do it but the sun highlighting the smudges on the windows and the words 'clean me' written in the dust on the TV meant I had to do something. So I cleaned out my car, took Freya for a long walk and even (you'll keel over at this one) cleaned the oven! - and then I dusted and cleaned the windows.

Alexander had a science open afternoon at his school so I went there - was whisked around every classroom with a running commentary from 'Harriet' about what scientific facts were being learnt. The tour was supposed to take 30 minutes but Harriet obviously had better things to do and had me done in 20. She pushed a comment book infront of me to write about my experience. She was polite and pleasant so I wrote that and said I had enjoyed my brief glimpse of Alexander as I was dragged through his classroom where he was busy sorting shapes and colours into primary and secondary.
As I put down the pen she pulled the book over to scrutinise what I had said about her. It was obviously satisfactory as she said a hurried 'bye' and disappeared.

My whirlwind tour taught me the following - dinosaurs have sharp teeth and brains the size of a golf ball. Guitar strings make a high note if tightened and a lower one if slackened. You can make a string instrument out of a cereal box, kitchen roll tube and some string. Clown mobiles can be made from lots of different shapes. Blue red and yellow are primary colours, orange and purple are secondary. Wind can be felt, birdsong can be heard, sugar can be felt and tasted, colours can be seen (you get the gist. Teflon is a smart material that stops your egg from sticking to the pan - and I'm sure other scientific facts flashed by me in a blur.

I'm back at work tomorrow - I wish I wasn't. This has been one of those weeks that made me feel I could cope with staying home every day. Oh well it will soon be Easter.

Wow have you been incredibly busy. Also, that is one fine looking dog. I wish we can get a big dog. My wife won't allow it. Instead we have a 5 lb. Chihuahua.

Thanks Jason - Lilah is gorgeous, but so is my Freya, she is Lilah's niece?
You wouldn't want all the hairs in your new house though. Those wooden floors just create 'tumbleweed' hairballs!

Sounds like a busy few days Gail. Glad it's all been fun. My 2 have an open morning today and I'm giving it a miss. 2 class trips and library, I've had enough of unpaid skivviness lol. Bet if I gave my form in they'd sign it lol. Lx

Gail! Love the photo and dowloaded it to my computer. The story of the illustration of your FIL will make an interesting one for my blog. It will take me a bit to get it all together, but I look forwarded to posting it there.

I see that the replacement illustration didn't make it there in time - you just HAD to give it to him early, didn't you. The new and improved version might have made it on time, by diggity.

And then there's the matter of the rascal growing a beard and me choosing the wrong glasses to draw for the caricature. The darker ones are more striking, but I might have gone with the wire frames had I known that there were now his choosen pair.

I'm so glad that he like it. Give FIL my birthday wishes - from a stranger away over on the other side of the states.

BTW - I gave you a link on my post today.

Thanks for your comments as usual, most appreciated!

..and incase you were left wondering about my project that I mentioned at the top - It didn't work despite several attempts. It's a video link - but it won't 'publish' or something I think I may have to edit it a bit more so watch this space - well not 'this' space as such but hopefully sometime this weekend it will appear.

Busy, busy couple of days! Sounds like you had a great time. That dog is beautiful.

I have 2 questions for you. You said your MIL and FIL came over for takeaway. What is 'takeaway'? And also what is "the 'dregs' of the cup"?

Tismee2 said...

Jujuboo - sorry I assume everyone knows what I am talking about.

A takeaway is like a chinese or indian meal you get from a restaurant to eat at home? Some people call it a 'carry out'?

'The dregs of the cup' is that last few drops you leave in the bottom because of biscuit crumbs or tea leaves etc.

hope this helps and please feel free to ask for more explanations as required!

I figured the takeaway was the same as carryout or takeout. But the dregs of the cup had me stumped. Thanks for explaining! I love learing about the differences is our two worlds!
